Whey protein smoothie

I choose to keep good quality, unadulterated whey protein concentrate in my primal diet - my muscles recover faster from exercise when I drink it afterwards. I use Pink Sun 'Everyday Whey', which has no nasty additives.

My goal with this smoothie is to drink protein and carbohydrates right after my workout with minimal fat (which would slow the absorption) to give the muscles what they need to repair. I also wanted to add some (not loads, again I don't want to slow absorption) fibre as I find that whey protein without it can affect my digestion a bit. After much tinkering, this is my go-to post-exercise treat.

Kiwi-pear green smoothie

I'm really getting into the habit of a green smoothie every morning - the Vitamix is now indispensible! Sometimes I'm well behaved and make a smoothie with lots of vegetables, other times I ensure lots of immune-boosting ingredients. And sometimes I just want something simple! Hence the kiwi-pear green smoothie was born.

Oil-free almond butter

Today I made almond butter in the Vitamix. I wanted something a little different than the raw almond butter I've been buying (a bit if a treat, if you will) and so I roasted the almonds first and mixed a little bit of honey and salt into the final product.

The results are to die for. I don't think I can ever buy almond butter from a shop again. How did I do it?  Find out after the jump!

Vitamix Going Green smoothie

The Vitamix adventures have begun with 'official' Vitamix recipes but have been somewhat limited by our lack of ingredients. This smoothie recipe happened to coincide with what was in the fridge - it has a bit more fruit than I would usually put in a green smoothie but is delicious nonetheless.

The Vitamix has landed

My household had been saving up for a Vitamix for awhile when my lovely mother came up trumps with some Christmas gift vouchers that enabled us to scurry off to the shops and procure one. This blog will chronicle my Vitamix adventures.
